2024 Trip to Horseshoe Curve

Tuesday August 6th

After some breakfast and more dashing I headed south toward Rhinecliff and the Hudson River. I'm including the pictures of the river because river travel came before trains and still remains in use on large rivers today. The Hudson even has river cruises available.

A stop at Rhinecliff Station would produce a couple Empire Service trains, and I would find that the actual station was in need of restoration. This restoration is now underway and will include a high level platform, a new interlocking to the south, elevator improvements, and renovations to the building itself. Putting a timeline to a project like this is hard because as the work progresses new problems are found that need to be addressed.

Hyde Park was the home of many of the Roosevelts, Vanderbuilts, and old money families, so a stop at the station was in order, and soon after that I came across the Yorktown Station and Park. It is worth looking up the battle of Pines Bridge for some revolutionary war history.
